DECEMBER 2025
Welcome to the inaugural issue of The Economics Review.
This online publication was born from a simple yet ambitious idea: to create a platform where students can explore, analyze, and share insights on the economic forces shaping our world. It is a space for curiosity, rigorous thought, and meaningful dialogue. From the earliest planning stages to this first issue, our goal has been to cultivate a community where ideas can be explored freely, questions are welcomed and learning extends beyond the classroom.
Within this issue, you will find an impressive range of essays, interviews, and book reviews that reflect the intellectual ambition of our contributors. Our writers examine the expanding role of artificial intelligence in finance and labor markets, analyze patterns and anomalies through the history of the stock market, and confront vital questions in development economics. These essays are not just an exercise in theory, but are also meticulous attempts to understand the economic foundation of the world. Together, they demonstrate the relevance of economics, not just as an academic discipline, but as a lens through which we can examine society itself.
I want to extend my sincere gratitude to our student writers, whose dedication brought this issue to life. Each contribution represents sustained research, careful analysis and a genuine commitment to intellectual inquiry. Thank you for trusting this publication with your work and for rising to the challenges of shaping its first issue.
I am also grateful to the leadership of the Undergraduate Economics Association, especially our club president, Hugo Osorio Arana, and the club’s Academic Committee Chair, Pinzhuo Xu, whose contributions were instrumental in transforming this idea into reality.
As editor in chief, it has been an honor to work with such a driven group of individuals. I am proud of what we have accomplished. Our hope is that The Economics Review becomes a lasting forum for dialogue, one that challenges perspectives, encourages debate, and inspires interdisciplinary exchange.
Thank you for being a part of the beginning of The Economics Review. We look forward to building a tradition of curious discussions rooted in economic inquiry.
Sincerely,
Shivani Singh
